Get Ready to Run with Rover in the Atlanta Dog Jog.

The city of Atlanta and its surrounding areas are perfect for families or individuals with pets. Whether you have a Shih Tzu or a Gold Retriever, you’re going to find fabulous events that are pet focused nearby, where you and your pets can enjoy a day with other pet lovers and their furry friends. For the more active bunch that loves a good run with their dog, start looking forward to the Atlanta Dog Jog at Piedmont Park, where you, your canine companion, and their fellows will all enjoy a good workout for a good cause.

The Atlanta Dog Jog is a one to two mile walk/run/jog for people and their dogs that will go to benefit Canine Assistants, a non-profit group that works with service and seizure response dogs. This amazing event is great way for you and your pup to get out and socialize, get some good exercise, and interact with other pet lovers, including celebrity emcee Victoria Stillwell, while benefiting this great cause. You and your dog, or you on your own if your pet can’t make it or if you’re running in memory of your pet, can participate for just $30. If you have a multi-canine household, you can bring additional dogs for $15.

All athletic levels are welcome, so don’t feel like you can’t participate if you’re not an experienced runner. If your dog can’t run or walk the entire race, strollers and wagons are permitted. If you plan to run the race rather than walk, start training with your dog now. Some dogs will take easily to training to run with a partner, while others might have trouble, or may never take to the habit. Your dog’s genetics will partially affect how well they adjust to running, as will their socialization and how they are trained. Is your dog naturally inclined to like running? Awards will be given to the best performing male and female runners that are accompanied by their pets in the one mile event. For those competing in the 2 mile event, awards will be given to the top three male and female runners with a small dog (under 20 lbs.), the top three male and female runners with a medium sized dog (20-50 lbs.), and to the top three male and female runners with a large dog (50 lbs. and up). Runners who enter without a pet are not eligible for awards, but do get enjoy the day of fun. Runners/walkers will be provided with a t-shirt, and all canine participants will receive a bandana.

Before you sign up to participate in the Atlanta Dog Jog, be sure that you are aware of the rules:

· All dogs must be leashed. Strollers and wagons are permitted for small breeds. No leashes over 6 feet in length.

· Dogs are not allowed to compete in both the one mile and the two mile race. Puppies ages 6 months and younger cannot participate in the 2 mile event.

· Dogs must be licensed and up to date on their rabies vaccination to participate. Female dogs in heat are not allowed to participate.

· Unruly and aggressive pets and participants may be asked to leave.
